Is it safe to take Xue Fu Zhu Yu Wan with other formulas like the ***Nei Xiao Luo Li Pian (Nei Xiao Luo Li Wan,***? I have a dog with liver cancer and wanted to use these.
In general nearly any combination of herbs can be used so long as the clinical reasoning for using them is absolutely correct. In clinical reality it is far more complicated and generally has to be considered on a case by case basis both in relation to the patient and in relation to their overall set of signs and symptoms (* essentially never chosen by their “condition” in western terms).
So the two formulas you are considering xue fu zhu yu wan and nei xiao luo li wan come from the “invigorate the blood and dispel blood stasis” and the “transform phlegm and dissipate nodules” categories respectively. On a base level they could in some patients be used together certainly, but, again, all of this has to be weighed with the proper diagnosis so I strongly recommend you consult directly with a well trained veterinary acupuncturist who also practices herbal medicine.
A deep discussion of the issue would be more a textbook than a forum post, but generally with cancer you have to balance what you would like to accomplish with the status of the patient. So dispelling blood stasis herbs, for example, while often used for growths, fibroids, trauma to areas, etc. can be problematic at best if there is, for example, internal bleeding in which case something like yunnan baiyao to stop the bleeding and bu zhong yi qi wan to strengthen the person and avoid anemia, just as examples, would be far more appropriate.
And then all of this has to be balanced with any western medications or other western approaches.
